We would like to introduce an exciting range of practical Geography lesson material for schools in South Africa. The aim of the material is to provide learners the ability to gain
hands-on experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
Background
GIS was included in 2007 in the National Curriculum for Geography for Grade 10, 11 and 12, and specific GIS learning outcomes are expected from learners taking Geography as a
subject. However, due to the complexity of GIS software, it has been a challenge for schools and educators to introduce GIS in the following aspects:
- High cost of obtaining GIS software and training material.
- Educators having to:
- learn a complex GIS program.
- provide learners with the necessary practical experience on GIS software.
- effectively assess learners on GIS according to expected learning outcomes.
These factors result in learners not being able to successfully complete the GIS learning outcomes as expected from them.
GSDI Lesson Material
The range of lesson material provided by us addresses the above issues by providing GIS training material that is:

The content of the lesson material includes the following:

- Teacher Guides for each lesson
- Teacher Assessment Guides for each lesson
- Step-by-step instructional lessons for learners with assessment sections
 The school is provided with the following material:
- 1 x A4 file containing 1 full set of all guides and lesson material
- 1 x DVD containing all hard copy material in digital format for duplication
- 1 x DVD containing all GIS data, software and additional lesson material (including topographic sheets, aerial photos etc)
- Printed map set for practical map work
